"Empire chatted with Ryan Reynolds and asked him an interesting question about the upcoming "X-Men" spin-off, Deadpool, in which he'll reprise his role from the "Wolverine" movie.

Reynolds says Deadpool will breach the fourth wall: "Break the fourth wall? Oh yeah, he's got to. I want to see him break the Great Wall"... "The studio's working on a script and trying to find a director. The main goal is to make sure it stays close to the source material."

So does Reynolds feel under pressure from fanboys? “I’m one of them. I’ve always been a fan, at least for the last eight or nine years. I feel a bit of validation because I knew going into Wolverine that there’s a huge fanbase for this and I don’t think anyone else did."

A release date has not yet been set for the film."

I saw 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' at the midnight showing, and then again on Sunday. Of course the midnight showing was sold out, but not as quickly as The Dark Knight or some previous Harry Potters. There was overall hype, but again not as much as I have seen before. One review I agree with is over at Seattlepi.com:

"For some reason Michael Bay & Co thought it was a good idea to have a bunch of sexual overtones. I'm still not sure what that added to the movie... Some of the language was harsh as well."
With a staff of writers isn't it possible to come up with something better? I guess the language appeals to a broad audience?

"The action scenes in Revenge of the Fallen were much better than 2007's Transformers. It was hard to watch some of action sequences in the first movie. A lot of the shots were really tight which made it hard to focus on what was even happening."
I could actually follow who was getting their butt kicked and who was winning within the fight. I can dissect these scenes, instead of just zoning out until they are done.

"More robots! More robots! I as happy to see they added more characters to the movie. Some of them went really undeveloped, but it was still good to see new characters in a few scenes."
Me gusto mucho. More characters = More awesome cars.

Speaking about new cars. I did not notice that the new Chevy Cruze, which I have mentioned before, and the Chevy Volt were in 'Transformers: RotF' until I watched it a second time. The Volt looks pretty in purple. It's shown briefly... I can't remember when. If you blink you will miss it. I found a picture of it over at Autoindustrie.blogspot.com, which is really an informative blog about cars.

In the opening scenes the Cruze is used as a Shanghai cop car. I was excited when I saw the Cruze, I had to look online to make sure it was there, and not a new Impala, Cobalt or something... I cannot find an image of the Cruze dressed up as it was in Transformers.

Also, does Michael Bay mention previous films of his in all of his movies? In the first Transformers one of the kids running to see the fallen "comet" says something to the effect of "This is so much better than Armageddon". Then in Revenge of the Fallen Shia LaBeouf paints all over a Bad Boys II poster.

Hmm my favorite number is seven... so lets give 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' on the basis of really awesome blowout fight scenes and shiny cars but unneeded language and super weak plot... three out of seven. I would watch it again, but not a million times.

'The Lord of the Rings' Used In Iranian Conflicts

Over at Cinematical.com an article talks about how 'The Lord of the Rings' is either being used to calm protestors or to support one of the candidates.

"The latest political controversy that the series finds itself embroiled in is the Iranian electoral protests. Time has a piece from an anonymous Iranian resident reporting that the government is using film to try and quell public unrest. "In normal times, Iranian television usually treats its viewers to one or two Hollywood or European movie nights a week. But these are not normal times, so it's been two or three such movies a day. It's part of the push to keep people at home and off the streets, to keep us busy, to get us out of the regime's hair. The message is 'Don't worry, be happy.'"

It goes on to explain how the death of Boromir portrays dying to defend humanity and that Shadowfax draws the image of "Rakhsh, the mythical horse of the Rostam, the great champion of the Shahnameh".
I knew that all throughout LotR there is a green message; Sarumon was industry that was destroying the Earth. Especially in The Two Towers. I did not know that others used it to promote their own ideals. When couples used LotR as a theme for their weddings, Tolkien was upset. I don't think he would be very happy with this either.

Del Toro To Take 'The Hobbit' To New Lands

Over at ReelzChannel.com they scored descriptive hints from Hobbit director Guillermo del Toro.

"Well we start next year. We are in pre-production. We are writing, designing, designing characters, monsters. Designing all the environments. Developing the technology to shoot it. And it will start in March 2010 and we will shoot for about 370 days or so. And at the end of that we will post-produce for a few months. And then first movie comes out 2011. Second movie comes out 2012."

"The landscapes in some cases, in some instances that were not established in the trilogy, we are going for a slightly different feel in some of the landscapes. So we are going to evolve little by little. At the end of the first movie, you will see landscapes that you haven't seen in the trilogy. And in the second movie we go to, hopefully, a place that is very very different."

"... it looks like a 16-hour, insane movie, there's so much in it. It's too early for me to tell how much stuff is going to get paired down. I don't really feel comfortable saying too much, except that it looks amazing. And it's very much a del Toro stamp on that world."

Official Avatar: 'The Last Airbender' Teaser Trailer

'Teaser' trailers are the ultimate tool in creating cinema anticipation. It's a literal glimpse at what patient people will see for the first time in less than a year, but I am not patient when it comes to things like Avatar: 'The Last Airbender.'

From watching this 1:41 of film it's possible to assume the bending will be awesomely successful! Other than that... not much. Aang looks like he has big feet maybe?

'Teaser'. pfft. I love movie gossip as much as the next person, but lately substance in most 'updates' has been lacking. It's a method the studios use to generate interest. Well, we are interested already! Stop spending money on little things and spend it making a quality film!

I picked the wrong post to write this on. I am really looking forward to 'The Last Airbender.' But we have to wait a year. SO. I will be watching it. Next year.

“I love it, because I get to be involved,” Reynolds said of his role in the fast-tracked development of a Deadpool spin-off film. “And I’m such a huge fan of the character.”

It's (almost) always a good thing when an actor has so much time invested in a film. I don't know very much about the character Deadpool, but if Ryan Reynolds is involved, I'm in!

Found some exciting news over at G4 today:

Firstly, del Toro had what could be considered somewhat of a casting scoop. (Even though we've pretty much carried on the past years "knowing" it was going to happen.) Andy Serkis will return as Gollum, Ian McKellen will return as Gandalf, and Hugo Weaving will return as Elrond, all reprising their Lord of the Rings trilogy roles. Again, most any given fan would likely have never even thought that they would NOT return. However, it's still a warm and fuzzy feeling to at least get that little bit of news, straight from the horse's mouth."

I don't know about you, but this picture is my favorite out of the bunch at MTV.com. These Chevy cars are the new Trax and Beat and of course the Camaro.
The Beat was one of three Chevrolets concept cars shown to the public. There was an online vote to see which the people wanted to see go into production and the Beat won. The people in charge at Chevrolet have said that is would take several years to get the two door car up to the safety standards of the US and Canada but would be sold in Europe and the like starting in 2008 or 2009. With the recent bankruptcy woes of GM a release in the US seems to be even further away.
Well that's a bummer. But I'm kind of looking forward to the Cruze myself...You can also see it at Chevrolet.com

In what I'm sure is strategic marketing, a new photo of Mickey Rourke as Whiplash has been released from USA Today via ComingSoon.net.
At the moment this seems to be a flimsy representation of Iron Man's nemesis. I'm sure in action Mickey Rourke will seem more formidable.

Whiplash, along with the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) will be fighting against Iron Man/Tony Stark in the Jon Favreau directed Iron Man 2.
Iron Man 2 is due out May 7, 2010!

'The Avengers' Gets Some News

“The Avengers”: Feige would like to see the Hulk show up, possibly as the movie’s central villain (or antagonist) that spurs the creation of the Avengers to face the threat. And since he signs the checks, I’m going to guess he’ll get his wish. Also, Zak Penn will begin his draft of the movie next week and work through the summer. Feige also confirms that Sam Jackson and Scarlett Johansson (who will be playing the Black Widow in “Iron Man 2″) have already been signed up for the movie.

Jon Favreau (Iron Man 1&2 director) Interview:

“Yeah, definitely, definitely,” Favreau said in an interview at WonderCon in San Francisco on Feb. 23, where he unveiled new footage from his upcoming movie, which stars Robert Downey Jr.

Favreau added: “I don’t want to blow anything, and also I don’t honestly know where it’s all going to land. I know that there are sort things that have been discussed and tried and talked about. I know at the end of the day on the Horizon is The Avengers, and the idea is to have chapters of all of the characters that would contribute to being The Avengers. … Hopefully, we’re all going toward The Avengers.”

Favreau wouldn’t confirm the Fury/Jackson cameo in Iron Man. “I’m not going to talk about who’s in what, but for the fans, there’s definitely enough to keep you leaning forward and paying attention and stuff,” he said. “And your girlfriend’s not going to know what you’re so interested in in certain scenes. It’s just going to fly by for certain people. But I think we threw enough breadcrumbs around to reward you for giving a s–t.”

USA Today reveals the first images of M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender.
Twelve-year-old black belt Noah Ringer portrays Aang, the last air bender.

Dev Patel, known as Jamal from Slumdog Millionaire,
portrays Zuko, prince of the fire nation.
I have one problem with the article:

"Ringer didn't need to alter much to play Aang, who uses martial arts to manipulate the weather. Like Aang, Ringer keeps his head shaved and is an expert in martial arts."

Aang doesn't manipulate the weather. Moving on :)

One picture I want to see is of Jackson Rathbone, or Jasper from Twilight, as Sokka. In Twilight he hardly showed any emotion, but that is part of the role. Apparently he is a pretty funny guy, which is important since Sokka is the sole comic relief.

With all the different element bending there will have to be a lot of good special effects. But with Michael Dante DiMartino, one of the original creators, working on the film the story should be preserved well. Having watched the series, I am hoping and praying this will turn out well. The plan seems to be to make a movie for each of the three books (Water, Earth, Fire) the same as the original series.
The cartoon series ended last year with Book Three: Fire.

The Last Airbender is set to be released July 2, 2010.

Well, he has the same facial expression that Zuko had. For the entire first book. But how he changes throughout the series will undoubtedly be the most compelling aspect of the story, even if it's centered around Aang and that Fire Lord guy ;)

First impressions: Looks like it's taking The Dark Knight approach to remakes. Tough and gritty with some witty humor. I love Rachel McAdams and I'm excited to see her here. But I have a problem with Robert Downey's accent. Okay, okay so he is linguistically talented we already knew that; here is just seems off for some reason. Jude Law looks promising. He reminds me of Paul Bettany in Master and Commander. Plus, I did not know Hans Zimmer was the composer for this movie. Yay :)

Fast and Furious

I finally got to see Fast and Furious on Sunday, but just now got the chance to post something. The movie was everything the trailers said it would be. At one point near the beginning I was truly surprised. I loved the race scenes, and the cars were gorgeous of course. The first race is the best, although I'm pretty positive Vin Diesel's 70' Chevelle wouldn't be able to keep up with the imports around those city blocks. Also, wayyyy too much tunnel racing. Totally unrealistic and defeats the purpose of racing. But I liked the characters, everyone played their part and it went along swimmingly. Loved the end. B+

Up next: Wolverine!!! It will be interesting to see if the available download will effect the overall box office take. I'm betting not. Hopefully anyone in their right mind avoided it. I wonder if Star Trek coming out the next week will cause either to lose money?

Urban succeeds as "Bones" McCoy

So I JUST got back from the theater. At the end of the credits I got out my notebook and pen, ready for note taking. I managed to get this down:

Rorscharch is perfect. Jumps off the page onto the screen.

Nite Owl's basement is just like the graphic novel.

Then I realized that notes weren't necessary, because it is the novel on the screen. Every bit, from what I can remember anyway. So. If you want to save some money, it's worth it to add your name on the waitlist at the library for this novel.

Final remarks:

Music was awesome, can't miss with the classics.

Ozymandias and Rorscharch could possibly only exist in the novel and on the screen. Were those actors? (I'm being rhetorical here people)

I knew it was long going into it, and I'm glad it was.

Being a person who enjoys the Harry Potter books more than the movies, I love this film because it is exactly what the book was. In a way it was a little of a letdown, nothing new happened haha. But that is how it should be.
Love it, but will wait for DVD for the 2nd round. A-

Inkheart Notes

To put off my statistics, I am posting what I wrote down while watching Inkheart this past week. Yes, I actually took my notebook and wrote stuff down. Being a book fan I felt obligated. I've already been called a nerd more times than I can count and I'm not ashamed. Anyway -

Just comments really, in order of the story, nothing too coherent.

-Brief cheesy explanation of Silvertongues. What are they a breed?
-Red Riding Hood?
-Gwin cute, Dustfinger angry.
-Mo is actually good.
-Music is way too noticeable. Major pet peeve.
-Great scenery. Yay Italy!
-Elinor brilliant.
-Kudos for mentioning Middle Earth.
-Library sounds tiny instead of grand.
-Cheesy fire effects. Come on.
-Is that Basta? He's... puny.
-Can totally tell that's Darius without explanation.
-Andy Serkis rocks, I like this voice better *Duct tape hah*
-Magpie is gross. Too much makeup.
-Farid is too old? He grew on me though.
-Resa good. Arya from Eragon. Second times a charm?
-Dustfinger... is still angry. Or depressed. That makes more sense.
-"You think me weak and deceitful. I'm not. Not all of me."
-Fenoglio brilliant "This might be what it's like to give birth."

Several of us use Google through out the day for simple stuff, but we've never quite grasped the power of this tool. So, I am copy/pasting some tips from an article that David Pogue published in NY Times. (Pogue is a column writer for NY Times' weekly Circuits e-magazine.) Enjoy!

• Download and install the Google toolbar. Not only does it put the Google search box into your browser full-time, but it also blocks pop-up ads and fills in forms for you. For Windows at http://toolbar.google.com. (Ad blocking, form-filling and Google's search box are already built into the Apple's Web browser, Safari.)

• Phrase your question in the form of an answer. So instead of typing, "What is the average rainfall in the Amazon basin?", you might get better results by typing "The average rainfall in the Amazon basin is."

• This is an old one, but very important: Put quotes around phrases that must be searched together. If you put quotes around "electric curtains," Google won't waste your time finding one set of Web pages containing the word "electric" and another set containing the word "curtains."

• Similarly, put a hyphen right before any word you want screened out. If you're looking up dolphins, for example, you'll have to wade through a million Miami Dolphins pages unless you search for "dolphins -Miami."

• Google is a global White Pages and Yellow Pages. Search for "phonebook:home depot norwalk, ct," Google instantly produces the address and phone number of the Norwalk Home Depot. This works with names ("phonebook:robert jones las vegas, NV") as well as businesses.

Don't put any space after "phonebook." And in all of the following examples, don't type the quotes I'm showing you here.

• Google is a calculator. Type in an equation ("32+2345*3-234=").

• Google is a units-of-measurement converter. Type "teaspoons in a gallon," for example, or "centimeters in a foot."

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Australian actor Hugh Jackman was named on Friday as host of February's Oscars in a departure from the tradition of picking U.S. comedians on Hollywood's most prestigious night.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, which hands out the world's top film honors, said Jackman, 40, star of the romantic epic "Australia," will host the televised ceremony for the first time.

The actor, who also starred in the three "X-Men" movies and is an award-winning musical theater performer, has hosted Broadway's Tony awards three times and last month was named 2008's "sexiest man alive" by People magazine.

"Hugh Jackman is a consummate entertainer and an internationally renowned movie star," said Laurence Mark and Bill Condon, the new producers of the televised show.

"He also has style, elegance and a sense of occasion. Hugh is the ideal choice to host a celebration of the year's movies -- and to have fun doing it," the pair said in a statement.

Oscar nominations for the best movies and performances of 2008 will be announced in January. The awards will be handed out on February 22 by the Academy at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood and will be televised in the United States by the ABC network.

Jackman's choice heralds a new direction for the 81st Oscar ceremony after recent years of falling TV ratings.

Typically, the program has been hosted by U.S. comedians, and in recent years, show organizers have experimented with a variety of hosting styles ranging from political satirist Jon Stewart, to edgy Chris Rock and popular Ellen DeGeneres.

Mark and Condon have axed the famous opening monologue for the February 2009 show, hoping for more spontaneity overall. They said there may be a stronger element of music and dancing than previously.

"We want it to be more of a party and a celebration and a departure from the late-night talk-show format," Mark told Reuters. Mark and Condon have a background in musicals and worked together on the 2006 film hit "Dreamgirls".

Jackman, who can sing and dance, was "genuinely thrilled" at the offer, Mark said, but "he wanted to make sure the format would mesh with his skills."

The February 2008 three-hour plus broadcast, hosted for the second time by Stewart, hit a low 32 million U.S. viewers and entered the record books as the least-watched Oscars ever.

Still, even an audience of that size makes the telecast annually one of the most-watched U.S. TV shows. The broadcast also is televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.

Mark said he and Condon planned to get the telecast under three hours, yet still keep the live presentations of awards and acceptance speeches."

Holy shnikies! This is crazy! I didn't expect the movie to do so well, then again I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. I guess filmmakers have finally got the clue that the movie needs to follow the book. And this movie does, to a T. Without the book though, I think the movie wouldn't be as good. I did go see it at midnight, and it was sold out until Sunday... BUT WOW!

'Twilight' Takes A Big Bite Out Of The Box Office With Record-Breaking Opening Weekend
Miley Cyrus' animated flick 'Bolt' couldn't keep up, earning only $27 million.

"A huge weekend for "Twilight" fans has drawn to a close, and star-crossed lovers Edward and Bella are now rolling around on top of a pile of $70.55 million instead of in a flowery field.

That estimated total is enough to nearly double the film's budget in its first three days, making it 2008's biggest surprise blockbuster. A sequel, in the form of Stephenie Meyer's best-selling "New Moon," has already been green-lit. The film opened at the top spot in the box-office race, despite lukewarm reviews, capturing the fourth-best November opening of all time and the best opening weekend since "The Dark Knight" this past July. "Twilight" is also on pace to become the highest-grossing vampire film of all time and has already set a record for Catherine Hardwicke as the biggest opening for a solo-directing female.

For those of you who've been living under a rock the size of Bella Swan's '53 Chevy truck, "Twilight" is based on the best-selling novel by Meyer, which tells the story of a klutzy human (Kristen Stewart) and a sexy vampire (Robert Pattinson) who find themselves falling recklessly into a forbidden love affair. Fans have been breathlessly counting down the days to the film for more than a year, making headlines as they swarmed the movie's young stars, launched the film's soundtrack to #1, and blew out eardrums last week at the jam-packed premiere.

The "Twilight" opening is one of the most successful ever recorded for an independent film. The film's average Cinema Score grade was "A-." The audience skewed 75 percent female, and 55 percent of the moviegoers were under the age of 25. According to polling by Fandango.com, 63 percent of the "Twilight" audience plans to see the film again.

The cultural phenomenon simply proved to be too much for Disney's action-hero talking dog "Bolt," whose film of the same name earned itself a disappointing $27 million. The movie, which features the vocal talents of John Travolta and Miley Cyrus, was expected to open stronger but may have been caught up in the "Twilight" crossfire, as both films were counting heavily on attracting a teen audience.

The bad news for "Bolt" was good news for Bond, James Bond. In its second weekend, 007's "Quantum of Solace" was able to shake and stir $27.4 million from the box office, giving it a whisker-thin lead over the Disney flick for second place. With the gap between the two films being so close, however, the official silver medalist might not be sorted out for a few days.

Similarly holding strong in their follow-up weekends were the Ben Stiller cartoon "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" ($16 million) and the Paul Rudd/ Seann William Scott comedy "Role Models" ($7.2 million). Other films filling out the top 10 were "Changeling" ($2.6 million), "High School Musical 3" ($2 million) and "The Secret Life of Bees" ($1.2 million). Looking past "Twilight," however, the most eyebrows may have been raised by limited-release Oscar hopefuls "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" ($1.6 million, ninth place) and Danny Boyle's "Slumdog Millionaire," which should enter the top 10 next week after pulling in a huge per-screen average of $31,063 — nearly 50 percent more than the enormous total for "Twilight."

Stephenie Meyer, bestselling author of the Twilight franchise, has announced on her website that she will no longer continue writing Midnight Sun — a companion novel that describes the Twilight events from hunky vampire Edward's perspective — after an early, incomplete draft was posted illegally online.

As Meyer writes on her website, "I'd rather my fans not read this version of Midnight Sun...My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. Writing isn't like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely."

"The Dark Knight," the long-awaited sequel from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, sold $155.3 million in tickets this weekend, according to early estimates from its distributor, setting a record for the biggest three-day take and cementing the primacy of superhero movies at the cineplex.
Batman's haul surpassed the bar set last year by Sony Pictures Entertainment's "Spider-Man 3" by $4.2 million and set the pace for what turned out to be the top-grossing overall box-office weekend in U.S. history, with an estimated $253 million in sales. I don't usually just repost news, but this is huge! The movie really is brilliant, but long and violent. Nobody at the midnight showing I went to had anything bad to say about this 152 minute long film. Heath Ledger deserves whatever accolades he is awarded.
